POSITION OVERVIEW :
All Inspectors on construction projects are to report to the concerned Engineer (ITS/Civil/ Structural/Materials/Electro-mechanical) as determined by the Resident Engineer.Inspectors assigned to various phases of the work have an important part in assuring the quality of work in the finished project.They must be completely familiar with the plans, specifications, particular specifications and construction methods for the phases of the work to which they have been assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintaina detailed diary of the day’s work activities, issues, work approved orrejected, hours of operation, labor and equipment used, etc. and sign at theend of each day.
Interfacewith the public, especially residents and business owners adjacent to the workto mitigate the construction impacts.
Coordinatewith the contractor’s foreman in charge of the work on a daily basis to adviceon the proper execution of the work.
Coordinatewith the Materials Inspector and arrange for sampling and testing ofsatisfactorily completed work, and quality assurance testing of suspectmaterials.
Coordinatewith the Surveyors to check the line and grade of completed work forconformance with the plans and specifications.
Reportquestionable methods of operation by the Contractor to the concerned Engineer.
Reportto the concerned Engineer any failure of the Contractor to conform to plans andspecifications and to provide good workmanship.
Processthe Request to check work forms and maintain records of their status.
Takemeasurement of works inspected.
Maintainrecords of completed works for interim and final payment and as-built plans.
Maintaindetailed records of work performed by the contractor on a Day Works basis.
Makespecial notes and document the Contractor’s activities that may lead to claims.
Befair and firm in dealings with the Contractor.Consider alternatives and consequences carefully before makingdecisions.
Issueinstructions to the Foreman in Charge of the work and do not argue with theContractor or his representatives.
Notifythe concerned Engineer of conditions that render it impractical or unreasonableto enforce the specifications.
Reportand document any accident that occurs on site and notify the concerned Engineerimmediately.
2-year degree in a technical discipline or construction-related field, or a high school diploma and equivalent work experience, is required. Also
Requires 5 to 8 years of related experience on heavy construction projects, as well as formal certification from an independent organization, depending on type of inspection assignment.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications and be thoroughly familiar with construction-related processes related to area of assignment.
