The Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) is responsible for gathering information necessary to maintain a system’s security posture and help establish functioning external/internal barriers such as controlled interfaces and other security measures. You will define, create, and maintain the security documentation for certification and accreditation (CA) of each information system in accordance with government requirements (i.e., ICD 503). You will perform research and assess the impacts on system modifications, technological advances, and malicious code. ISSOs review system’s security documentation to identify potential security weaknesses, recommend improvements to amend vulnerabilities, implement changes, and document security relevant changes. ISSOs inform users about security measures, track CA expirations, explain potential threats, perform software scans on networks and computers for vulnerabilities, review audit data for intrusions to protect information and prevent unauthorized access.As a vital member of the Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT), ISSO also participate and respond to computer security breaches and malicious code.


  • Advise the system ownerregarding security considerations in applications systems procurement ordevelopment, implementation, operation and maintenance, and disposalactivities (i.e., system development life cycle management)

  • Assist in the determination ofan appropriate level of security commensurate with the impact level

  • Assist in the development andmaintenance of system security plans and contingency plans for all systemsunder their responsibility

  • Participate in risk assessmentsto periodically re-evaluate sensitivity of the system, risks, andmitigation strategies

  • Participate in self-assessmentof system safeguards and program elements and in certification andaccreditation of the system

  • Notify the government of anysuspected incidents in a timely manner, and assist in the investigation ofincidents, as necessary

  • Maintain cooperativerelationship with business partners or other inter connected systems

  • Control, label, virus scanandappropriatelytransfer data(upload/download) betweeninformation systems at varying classification levels


Associate’s Degree or higher and at least 4 years of related experience


High school degree and 6+ years of computer or network related experience


·Must have a SecurityCertification

·Security+ and a CISSP preferred


  • Self-motivation and initiative

  • Effective communication skills

  • Familiarity with conductingresearch and analysis

  • Familiarity with network andinformation systemssecurity principles and best practices

  • Familiarity with controlling,labeling, virus scanning, and appropriately transferring data(uploading/downloading) between information systems at varyingclassification levels

  • Ability to engender rapportwith the military, civilians, and other contractors at all levels

  • Ability toprioritizetasks

  • Familiarity with applicableNRO, IC,DoD policies, procedures and operating instructions relatedto information technology,information assurance, informationmanagement (IT/IA/IAM)

Candidates must have an active TS/SCI security clearance
