Parsons is now hiring a Supervising Designer for our oil and gas expanding project in Houston

Parsons extensive experience in this field combined with your design knowledge and technical skills will propel your career forward. We need our Designers at this level to complete the most complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete systems and components of a project.

In this role you will complete highly-technical, difficult, and complex design assignments within one discipline, generally utilizing either 2D or 3D CAD methods. Technical skills gained from education/training and experience over many years enable you to work independently and complete the most demanding design assignments.


  • Reports to the ICS Engineering Supervisor

  • Supervises all discipline design/drafting personnel on the larger and more-complex projects.

  • Advises engineering and project management regarding any problem areas, staffing requirements, progress slippage, scope changes, budget overruns, or other events which could negatively affect project completion and/or profitability.

  • Provides design direction, making decisions and/or obtaining technical staff assistance when necessary. Recommends design methods and equipment use for discipline standards. Oversees application of state-of-the-art technology in the design area and recommends improvements to production methods. Responsible for the progress and quality of drawings produced by those supervised.

  • Coordinates discipline design work with project staff and other engineering disciplines.

  • Completes the most complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete systems and components of a project. Assignments typically involve design elements for which there may be no clearly established precedents and require anticipation of problems at the outset in order to provide appropriate solutions.

  • Performs front-end layout and design of complex systems and equipment applicable to the respective discipline.

  • Ensures compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety factors, and client requirements.

  • Performs specialized design computations and analysis within a given discipline.

  • Performs interdisciplinary reviews and provides coordination of data to ensure a compatible design.

  • Understands and applies commonly used company design standards and methods. May assist in the establishment or revision of guidelines and standards.

  • Reviews supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required.

  • Checks orthographic (2D) and isometric (3D) drawings prepared by others. May provide direction to a team of checking personnel, ensuring the mathematical accuracy of the drawings produced.

  • Collaborates with Engineers and other engineering disciplines to ensure quality of design.

  • Assists in training lower-level Designers in various procedures.

  • May serve as Lead Designer on a project, ensuring compliance with industry codes, as well as project and company standards. May prepare manpower estimates, as required.

  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

US Citizenship is required. A National Agency Check will be required.

Qualifications :

  • 2-year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is preferred

  • Experience using SmartPlant Instrumentation required

  • Experience using SmartPlant 3D required

  • 12-15 years of relevant experience (including supervisory experience).Job leadership experience desired

  • Requirements include strong PC and CAD skills, as well as efficiency in utilizing computer software to complete design assignments.
