Job Description:

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is seeking an Avionics Engineer to support an Advanced Targets development program. This position is a rare opportunity to be involved with the development a new target system to emulate the emerging threats addressed by the MDA Ballistic Missile Defense Systems (BMDS). Primary duties will include monitoring and reviewing prime contractor performance of the electronics and avionics components and systems design and analyses aspects for the development and test of this new target system and its application of new technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop Avionics sections of Requests for Proposals and evaluate supplier responses

  • Review Prime Contractor designs, analyses and plans for testing to ensure sound technical approaches and compliance with avionics requirements

  • Identify and contribute to the resolution of technical issues, problems and risks

  • Provide technical inputs to technical requirements and engineering plans

  • Generate technical briefings and decision packages

  • Provide routine project status reports of activities

  • Represent the interests of the customer in Working Groups, forums and Technical Interchange Meetings

  • Review and comment to Prime Contractor technical data products

  • Provide technical evaluation and support to major milestone reviews, i.e., SRRs, PDRs and CDRs.

Travel may be required CONUS/OCONUS (approximately 15% travel)

Experience Requirements:

·8+ years related experience with missile or space component electronics and avionics design, analysis, integration, test and evaluation

  • Demonstrated experience with missile or space vehicle RF antennas and transmitters

  • Working knowledge of missile or space vehicle navigation and guidance systems and components

  • Demonstrated experience in technical program planning, execution, and coordination

  • Experience with electronic component qualification – requirements, test procedures, test conduct, evaluation

  • Familiarity with engineering drawings

  • Familiarity with MDA and system engineering processes is desired

  • Technical proposal development and evaluation

  • Development and delivery of presentations to peers and/or management

  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools (e.g. MS Word, Project, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to begin performing with minimal supervision
