Parsons is now hiring a Senior Geologist for our exciting tunnelproject located in Laguna Beach, CA.

Parsons extensive experience in this field combined with your geological experience and engineering techniques will propel your career forward. We need our Geologists at this level to applyexperience and increasing proficiency in the use of geological theories and practices.In this role, you will perform the followinggeological and field tasks.

Responsibilities:

Inspect if work has been done in accordance with contract specifications including but not limited to the following:

  • Performs independent field work and gathers all types of field data pertinent to the assigned project.

  • Performs geological, hydrogeologic, and hydrochemistry analyses.

  • Prepares geologic mapping reports with technical oversight.

  • Inspects various facets of work on the construction site and perform continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications.

  • Performs and/or inspect civil and structural tests, such as soil compaction, moisture content, aggregation, graduation, concrete slump, air entrainment, concrete compression, lines and grades surveys, bolt torques, and concrete coring.

  • Review of survey reports, vibration/noise reports, and inclinometer reports.

  • Inspect ground support and reinforcing steel before placement of shotcrete or concrete.

  • Performs surveillance of underground utilities to ensure tightness, bedding, and grade.

  • Review and comment on issued RFIs and submittals.

  • Provides general inspection on all construction labor and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship.

  • Verifies equipment alignment and balancing operations.

  • Administers and review certifications and qualification of professional labor (e.g. welders, shotcrete nozzlemen).

  • Recommends job safety practices and drafts safety reports.

  • Prepares quality control reports and recommends changes to procedures.

  • Preparation of daily work progress reports.

  • Uploads project documents to the online Document Control System such as Unifier.

  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor’s or Masters degree (preferred) in Geology or in Geotechnical Engineering.

  • Requires 5+ years of of geological field and lab experience.

  • Must be able to read and interpret construction specifications and Drawings and be thoroughly familiar with construction related processes related to area of assignment.

Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree in Geology or related field

  • 5-10 years of related work experience

  • Certification as a professional Geologist is preferred

  • Proficiency in various computer software applications typically used geological analyses

  • Familiarity with related environmental rules and regulations is preferred

  • Requires a demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills

  • Thorough understanding of all environmental rules and regulations
