- 5-10 years experience with design and construction oversight of Communications and Control Systems, including;
a. Structured Voice/Data Cabling systems (copper/fiber),
b. Ethernet-based Local Area Network (LAN) systems,
c. 10-Gigabit fiber optic Wide Area Network (WAN) systems,
d. Telephone Systems (analog and VoIP),
e. Audio/Visual systems,
f. Fire Detection and Alarm systems,
g. PLC-based SCADA systems for power and ventilation control,
h. Building Management systems,
i. 2-Way Radio systems,
j. Computer aided dispatch and automated vehicle location systems
Expertise in Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) systems, specifically in the area of the data communication system (DCS).
Knowledge of applicable Codes and Standards, ability to interpret requirements, and apply to design modifications and review of Contractor submittals.
Knowledge of system integration concepts and methodologies.
Ability to interpret and apply Contract requirements (drawings, specifications) in review of Contractor submittals.
Ability to understand and follow client requirements regarding document control procedures and Quality Assurance/Quality Control policies as they apply to design modifications and other documents applicable to Communications.
Ability to function as a team member with other CBTC engineers involved in design services during construction and coordinate interfaces and support requirements with other disciplines as applicable.
Display effective oral and written communication skills to interface with Owner, Contractor and Project Management personnel on applicable technical topics and issues, and understand needs and constraints.
Ability and willingness to work in both an office and field environment, including owner meetings and on-site presence in an active construction environment.
Experience in installation, testing and commissioning of Communications systems desirable.
Professional certification and/or registration (P.E.) desirable, but not required.
4-year degree in Engineering (or related field)
5 to 10years of related work experience.
Working knowledge of CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering
Working knowledge in Microsoft tools and requirements management tools such as IBM DOORs.
