Parsons is now hiring a Supervising Mechanical Engineer for our rapidly expanding Pasadena California design office.
Candidate will provide extensive experience in the mechanical engineering field related to building science including advanced Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) knowledge, district heating and cooling systems, HVAC controls and a thirst for innovation will propel your career forward with opportunity for advancement with top performance. We need our engineers to be versatile, enthusiastic to work in highly flexible, team-oriented environment and who have exceptional communication, analytical and management skills.
In this role you will ensure consistency with applicable codes and customer quality requirements in an environment geared for hospital, laboratories, ventilation and filtration systems. You will provide cooling and heating load calculations as well as air and water distribution system pressure drop calculations. You may review vendor and subcontractor submittals making final selections for HVAC equipment.
You will be expected to have a working knowledge of ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE Std170and SMACNA 006-2006. A LEED BC D certification is recommended.
Must be familiar with the IMC - International Mechanical Code. Understanding state code additions and revisions is considered a plus.
May function as discipline Senior Project Engineer on medium to large projects, assuming responsibility for the work of the mechanical group.
Mentor, direct, and supervise the work of a engineering unit staff.
Leads other Engineers and design personnel in technical excellence and growth in the Quality Improvement Process.
Provides technical solutions for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses.
Understand heating, cooling and ventilation load analysis. Trained or past user of Trane load design or Revit.
Familiar with pipe flow analysis software and pipe stress analysis. Performed or managed the efforts of engineers performing annual energy use projections and analysis using Trance Trace or similar energy analysis program is also required.
Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer when required by statute or contract.
Prepares project material/equipment specifications and/or purchase requisitions; reviews supplier data; witnesses shop tests, assists with assessing supplier manufacturing capabilities.
May be required to conduct surveys, studies, and site investigations.
Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies such as ASHRAE and USGBC. LEED BCD certification is desired.
Helps determine staffing requirements for the mechanical group with input engineering management and adjacent department needs.
May prepare engineering reports and/or technical white papers.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
BS in Mechanical Engineering required
12-15 years experience in Building and Industrial systems mechanical design (Experience may include HVAC, Piping, Chilled Water Distribution, Steam Piping, Plumbing, Industrial ventilation systems)
Potential to perform in a Engineering Management capacity
Candidate should be proficient with AutoCAD and understand the use of Revit in the design process.
Revit experience preferred
