We are actively looking for a strong Civil 3D Designer- one who is a guru in either InRoads or OpenRoads to support all phases of transportation projects from design into construction, across the Western US. Transportation projects may include rail/transit, road/highway, bridge/tunnel, and aviation infrastructure. You will be expected to schedule travel to meet with design teams to review designs, develop advanced designs and work through design challenges.

In this role, you will provide technical guidance to project design and drafting personnel, and function as a liaison with client, suppliers, and contractors regarding design issues. We expect you to be able to draw upon yourdiversified design experience to lead engineers and design teams in overcoming design challenges, using InRoads and OpenRoads tools.You will solve complex problems, supports the integration of different disciplines on the project thru the use of the 3D model during task force meetings. Your 3d modeling will includepre-bid, finalization and optimization of transportation project models forour various projectteams as needed.These assignments typically involve design elements for which there may be no clearly established precedents and require anticipation of problems at the outset in order to provide appropriate solutions.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provides direction to a team of checking personnel, ensuring the mathematical accuracy of the drawings produced.

  • Performs specialized design computations and analysis for major transportation projects.

  • Performs interdisciplinary reviews and provides coordination of data to ensure a compatible design.

  • Ensures compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety factors, and industry codes, as well as client requirements and company standards.

  • May train lower-level Designers in various procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field is required.

  • 5 plus years of relevant experience with roadway or related transportation infrastructure projects

  • Minimum of 4 years 3D modeling experience using one of the following: InRoads and Openroads experience is PREFERRED

  • NOTE: we would consider a candidate with an Associates degree and 8+ years InRoads experience in transportation design projects or a candidate with no degree and a minimum of 12 years Inroads/OpenRoads experience in transportation design projects

  • Prefer experience on design-build projects, performing 3D designs

  • Can work independently

  • Can work directly with Contractor for field needs including quantities

  • Fullunderstanding of production for large final design projects

  • Experience mustinclude developing digital terrain models (DTM’s), generating horizontal alignment/vertical profiles and proficient use of 3D Inroads tool, or OpenRoads tool.

  • Must be willing to travel to Parsons offices around Western United States (West of Kansas City). This is planned/scheduled travel and only during the week- (no weekend travel is necessary).
