POSITION OVERVIEW :
Materials Engineer is assigned to coordinate the work and record keeping of the materials testing laboratory and is responsible to the ITS Engineer or Resident Engineer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fieldtesting set-up, organization, maintenance and operation.
Supervisionof staff assistants performing sampling of materials, and coordination with thetesting laboratory.
Participatein sampling, monitor testing, record keeping and reporting in accordance with:
-Employer’s Policy and Procedures Directives.
-Materials Testing Manual
-Standard Methods of Sampling and Testing
-Construction Supervision Manual
-Project Plans and Specifications
-Construction Supervision Directives
Copyall test results to the ITS Engineer/ Resident Engineer and the Contractor
Reportany failing or “borderline” test results immediately to the ITS Engineer/Resident Engineer. Monitor and documentthe remedial action taken to meet Specifications.
Coordinatewith the Inspector in charge of the work to confirm approval of the work fortesting and discuss areas of concern.
Coordinatewith the contractor on work priorities and schedules.
Performsampling and testing as quickly and efficient as possible to avoid undue delayto the Contractor’s operations.
Performregular checks of material delivered to the project for conformance with theapproved source or supplier.
Maintainneat accurate records.
Monitorthe frequency and number of tests required for every operation.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
4-year degree in construction-related field (or equivalent construction-related work experience), as well as a minimum of 8 years experience in field construction is required. Experience as a Construction Material Coordinator on a large civil/structural and/or industrial construction project is preferred.
Requires a working knowledge of construction-related processes, as well as a familiarity with industry practices. Proficient PC skills including a familiarity with various software used for inventory control, such as Document and Materials Controls System (DMCS), are also required.
